Work apace at Pushkar Nagar for pilgrims comfort

GUNTUR: With a view to providing a pleasant stay to the pilgrims during the Krishna Pushkarams to be held from August 12 to 23, the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) is all set to complete the construction work with all the necessary facilities.

The Pushkar Nagar is coming up at Goruntla on Amaravati Road, on the outskirts of Guntur city, in an area of 25 acres. It will have two massive sheds for providing accommodation to the pilgrims.

It will also have a food court along with a kitchen and dining area. The GMC is spending about Rs 2 crore on the Pushkar Nagar alone.

Explaining about the arrangements at Pushkar Nagar, GMC executive engineer A Lakshmaiah, who is also supervising the works, said that except some minor works like waste disposal, all the remaining works have been successfully completed.

He said all bore wells sunk at Pushkar Nagar were functioning. Four Sintex water tanks, each with a capacity of 4,000 litres, have been arranged.

Two tanks would be placed in the accommodation sheds, while one each would be set up at the food court and the drivers’ room. “For drinking water, we will set up as many as 50 mini-drinking plants in various points across the Pushkar Nagar,” he added.

He said the sheds will have wooden flooring covered by carpets. “The Pushkar Nagar will give a pleasant stay experience to the pilgrims,” he said.

“We have arranged a shed to house a temporary bus station along with a ticket counter. Similarly, we have allocated space for setting up the police outpost, a May I Help You Desk, a Clock Room, a First Aid medical centre, two LED screens and space for conducting cultural programmes,” he said.
