VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who vowed to inter-link Godavari and Krishna rivers during Godavari Pushkaralu last July, has now taken a vow to interlink Krishna and Penna and other rivers in the State.

After a holy dip in Krishna River at Durga Ghat, the CM said, the two major rivers were linked by completing Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme in a record time. “Today is time to pray to Krishna River which sustains us. We are lucky to have two major rivers, Krishna and Godavari flowing through our State. Both are lifelines of Telugu people and it is time we pay our respect to the mighty rivers,” he said.

Naidu also paid homage to Sir Arthur Cotton by recalling his contribution to irrigation in the state. It was Arthur Cotton, who was responsible for the construction of barrages on Krishna and Godavari. “Without rivers, we are nothing. We should vow to conserve and respect the river,” he said.

The CM said, Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi too has given his blessings for the inter-linking of rivers, describing it as good for the people in the State. “By next Godavari and Krishna Pushkaralu, I want to ensure that the State has no drought and no problems,” he said and reiterated his commitment to make Rayalaseema drought-free.

To make people understand the objectives of the government, he had taken 12 subjects including Polavaram and inter-linking of rivers, Amaravati, agriculture, agriculture-allied sectors and double digit growth to be discussed by experts in not just Vijayawada but in every village,” he added.

Recalling the success of Investors Partnership Summit and International Fleet Review, Naidu said Visakhapatnam will now play host to another international event - BRICS Conference as also the All India Investors Meet.
