GUNTUR: At least three persons including a woman died in a freaky road accident when a speeding private travels bus rammed into a stationary lorry on the national highway near Piduguralla in Guntur district.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday. About 15 more passengers were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Piduguralla. The condition of three passengers is said to be critical.
According to the police, the bus belonging to Vinayaka Travels was going to Nellore from Hyderabad. The passengers informed the police that only single driver was deployed by the travels company management for the long distance journey. They suspect that the driver might have lost control over the bus when he fell asleep. They alleged that he stopped the bus twice after midnight and had tea to control himself from not falling asleep.
Immediately after the incident, the driver abandoned the bus and escaped from the spot. Passersby informed the authorities concerned who in turn shifted the victims to the hospital. Efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
