Three killed, seven injured as bus rams into lorry

GUNTUR: Three persons died while seven others were injured when a private travels bus rammed into a stationary lorry on the Narketpalli-Addanki State highway on the outskirts of Pidugurlla town in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Among seven injured, the condition of one patient is said to be critical. According to police, the bus belonging to Vinayaka Travels, was on its way to Nellore from Hyderabad. Around 30 passengers, mostly belonging to Ongole and Nellore, were travelling in the bus. When the bus reached Piduguralla, it rammed into the stationary lorry. The impact completely damaged the left side front portion of the bus.

Two women, Kameswaramma (65) and her sister Ankamma (63), natives of Kavali mandal in Nellore district, died on the spot. Another youth, P Adiseshaiah (30), from Kavali town, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in a private hospital at Piduguralla. All the injured including the bus driver K Srinivasa Rao were rushed to the hospital in Piduguralla. Police observed that the bus driver completely lost control over the vehicle and took extreme left and rammed into the stationed lorry.

The passengers complained to the police that the bus driver was sleep deprived while driving the vehicle and the travels management had failed to provide a replacement. Police registered a case and are investigating.
