Cops raid flat in Ongole to detect Nayeem's links

ONGOLE: DREADED gangster and former Maoist Nayeem, who was shot dead in Shadnagar in Mahbubnagar district in Telangana earlier this month, apparently spread the tentacles of his underworld operation to major cities and even small towns in Andhra Pradesh. Fresh raids conducted by the Telangana police with the assistance of their Andhra Pradesh counterparts in Ongole have revealed his links here.

In a joint operation, a team of the Telangana police led by Miryalaguda inspector Bikshapti and the Andhra Pradesh police, came to Ongole on Friday and raided a flat at Suraksha Apartments in Mangamuru area of the town. They reportedly recovered documents pertaining to a parcel of land in Guntur.

Further investigations revealed that the flat (no. 510) at Suraksha Apartments was registered in the name of Farhana who is suspected to be a close aide of Nayeem. However, it is learnt that one Saleem alias Khayyum was residing in the flat. "Khayyum too is suspected to be a close follower of Nayeem and worked as the latter's pointsman in Ongole," a senior police officer said.
