ONGOLE : In a tragic incident, a 16-year-old boy committed suicide by jumping before a running train at Indla Cheruvu village in Donakonda mandal of Prakasam district on Wednesday. Heartbroken over son’s death, his father also committed suicide on the same railway track a few hours later.

According to information, Saddam Venkataramaiah was the eldest son of S Pedda Ramaiah (45), a farmer. He was studying 10th class in the Zill Parishad High School. He along with his sister was living with their mother S Narayanamma, who is the first wife of Pedda Ramaiah. The farmer also has another wife Subbamma, with whom he got three sons.

Though Pedda Ramaiah owned 10 acres of land, his debts mounted to Rs 10 lakh. He spent a lot on sinking borewells in his agricultural fields which yielded no water. The farmer suffered crop loss due to lack of irrigation water. On Tuesday, Pedda Ramaiah and Venkataramaiah reportedly had a bitter argument over the properties and debts to be shared between the two families.

In a fit of anger and frustration, Venkataramaiah left home on a bicycle this morning and committed suicide by jumping before a running goods train near their agricultural fields on the village outskirts. On hearing the news of young boy’s suicide, Pedda Ramaiah rushed to the spot.

On seeing the body parts of his son strewn on the railway track, Pedda Ramaiah was shell shocked. Sobbing inconsolably, he collected the strewn body parts of his son and kept them at one place.

Later, Pedda Ramaiah ended his life by threwing himself before a fast approaching goods train from Markapur side while his fellow villagers were watching helplessly. After the conduct of an inquest, the bodies were shifted to government hospital for postmortem. The Railway police registered a case.
