Assets worth Rs 40 L tumbles out of R&B engineer's bank locker

VISHAKAPATNAM: Continuing the raids on the properties of Roads & Buildings deputy executive
engineer (electrical sub-division), Visakhapatnam, Subhas Chandra Patro for the second day on Monday, the Central Investigation Unit (CIU) of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) seized jewellery and
documents pertaining to investments, all worth around Rs 39.5 lakh from a bank locker.

The papers pertaining to a housing plot measuring 295 sq yards at Adavivaram were also found.

The ACB officials opened the bank locker at the Visalakshinagar branch of Andhra Bank and found 180 grams of gold valued at Rs 4.5 lakh, silver articles weighing 1 kg worth Rs 25,000.

The ACB sleuths also found a bank balance of Rs 6.5 lakh, fixed deposits of Rs 21 lakh, additional payments receipts towards plots around Rs 8 lakh, six blank promissory notes, four blank cheques in the locker.

The ACB sleuths began raiding the properties belonging to Patro and his relatives in Hyderabad and at various places of three north coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts on Saturday and seized illegal assets worth around Rs 50 crore (market value).

They were planning to open the bank locker on Sunday, but it did not happen as the bank was closed.

However, Patro was produced before the ACB court which remanded him in judicial custody until January 5.
