HC directs AP police to file counter in Guntur medico suicide case

The professor has been evading arrest for the last several days in the case.

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday directed the Andhra Pradesh police to file counter affidavit in the case filed by VV Lakshmi, senior professor of Gynaecology in Guntur Medical College, seeking to grant stay of proceedings in the case registered against her by the Guntur police.

Meanwhile, students of the medical college staged protests demanding immediate arrest and suspension of Professor Lakshmi and accused her of harassing them. The professor has been evading arrest for the last several days in the case. Justice Raja Elango was dealing with a petition by Dr Lakshmi contending that the police have registered case against her without knowing the facts relating to suicide incident of Rani.

The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the petitioner was in no way connected with the suicide case of Rani. There was no truth in the allegation that she was responsible for the incident, she added.
The government counsel for home told the court that the police are on search to arrest Dr Lakshmi in the case, and that the students agitation are still on at the medical college.
