House arrest of prominent Kapu leaders continues in East Godavari

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: House arrest of prominent Kapu leaders continues in the district to thwart Satyagraha Padayatra proposed by former minister Mudragada Padmanabham seeking inclusion of the caste in BC list.

The police did not allow YSR Congress Party Central Governing Council member Jakkampudi Vijaya Lakshmi, YSRCP youth wing State president Jakkampudi  Raja, YSRCP corporator Bontha Srihari and other party leaders to move in the city on Thursday. When Vijaya Lakshmi wanted to attend a function in the city by showing invitation, she was allowed only with police escort.

The police are not allowing any political leader to meet Mudragada at his house in Kirlampudi. YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu’s attempt to meet him at Kirlampudi was foiled.  Meanwhile, the police have made heavy security arrangements at the government headquarters hospital, where Mudragada was lodged for 15 days in February when he was on an indefinite  hunger strike to press his demand for BC status for Kapus.

The police action is giving rise to suspicion that the Kapu leader may be admitted to the hospital during the scheduled visit of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to East Godavari district on Saturday to avoid any trouble.
As the Kapu Joint Action Committee is firm on its stand to organise Satyagraha Padayatra peacefully without applying for police permission, tension continues in Kirlampudi and Konaseema.
