HC summons V’wada DCP, constable

HYDERABAD: Annoyed with the attitude of the Vijayawada city police, a division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Friday suo motu impleaded deputy police commissioner K Praveen and constable Vijay Malik of the Patamata police station in a habeas corpus petition and ordered them to appear before it on November 22.

The bench comprising Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy and Justice M S K Jaiswal was dealing with a plea filed by one Gowreeswari seeking directions to the Vijayawada police to produce her husband K Ramesh, who she alleged, was under illegal detention.

The petitioner alleged that the police after detaining her husband on October 10 had withdrawn Rs 3.52 lakh from the family’s bank accounts using his ATM cards between October 10 and October 14.  She submitted to the court that her husband was detained by the police again on October 21 after coming to know that she had moved the court. According to her, the police took her husband to the MRO and forcibly obtained his signature to show that he was released on October 16 itself. The DCP had personally tortured him and had threatened him with dire consequences, she further alleged.

After hearing the case, the bench observed that if the allegations of the petitioner were true, such police officers posed a threat to the society.
