Man killed by wild elephants on Andhra-Odisha border

A man was killed by a herd of wild elephants while he was on the way to his village in Srikakulam district on the border of Andhra-Odisha on Saturday night.

SRIKAKULAM:  A man was killed by a herd of wild elephants while he was on the way to his village in Srikakulam district on the border of Andhra-Odisha on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as K Tavitayya (55), a resident of Sodha village of Patapatnam mandal in the district.

According to sources, Tavitayya went to attend a wedding at Yeguvaguda village of Hiramandalam mandal on Saturday and was returning home late last night. On the outskirts of village, a herd of wild elephants attacked him. The locals found him dead in the wee hours on Sunday. The officials of forest, revenue and police departments rushed to the spot to assess the situation as well as verify the facts. 

The villagers urged the officials to initiate immediate measures to stop the elephants from entering the village and destroying their crops.
