More Central funds sought for Polavaram

VISAKHAPATNAM: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and party Andhra Pradesh  affairs incharge Rama Chandra Khuntia has demanded allocation of more funds to complete the Polavaram project in the stipulated time. He said that the grant of `1,400 crore was peanuts as the project needs more than `30,000 crore. After the bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh badly needed the Polavaram project and as per the assurance given in the AP  Reorganisation Bill, the NDA government should allocate more funds to complete the project at the earliest, Khuntia said.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Khuntia criticised the TDP and the BJP-led NDA governments at the state and the Centre. Both the governments were cheating  people ignoring their pre-election promises. While participating  in the debate in Parliament, present Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu  demanded special status for 10 years to the AP and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu promised special status for 15 years if the NDA came to power.

Chandrababu Naidu failed to implement various assurances listed  in the AP Re-organisation Bill. The Congress party had already started various protests demanding the state and the Centre to sanction all the assurances listed in the AP Organisation Bill-2014. The protests  and agitation would not stop till the state and Central governments do justice to the state, he added.

Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao and party city president B Bhaskara Rao were present.
