Chaos over rumoured kidnap near Collectorate

A rumor of kidnap caused chaos when people saw an unknown person being forcibly taken into a four-wheeler by a group of people.

VISAKHAPATNAM: A rumor of kidnap caused chaos when people saw an unknown person being forcibly taken into a four-wheeler by a group of people, near collectorate on Wednesday morning at around 11.30.

The mystery case was solved by the city police after a six-hour-long investigation when they found out that it was in fact the Kakinada Two Town police of East Godavari district, who took the man into custody in a private cab based on various complaints filed against him in their police station.

According to protocol, the Kakinada police were supposed to inform the local police when they take a citizen under the former’s police station limits, into custody for interrogation or inquiry. However, when the Kakinada police picked up the accused, identified as Sayyad Bajuddin, a businessman from Kakinada, the rumor of kidnap spread like wildfire and the city police had taken up enquiry. Police sources revealed that the city cops recovered the CCTV footage of collectorate and started investigation.

Police informed that Sayyad Bajuddin had allegedly borrowed huge amounts of loans and failed to repay them in Kakinada. Based on the complaints received from the victims, the Kakinada police had come and nabbed Sayyad near the city Collectorate
