Bangla man found in empty container to be sent home

VISAKHAPATNAM: A day after the Bangladeshi worker was found in a locked container at Visakha Container Terminal Private Limited (VCTPL) in Visakhapatnam Port, the officials have identified him as Mohammed R Hussain, a resident of Vikrampur village in Munshiganj district in the division of Dhaka in Bangladesh.

According to One Town inspector Venkat Rao, Hussain had come to Chittagong from Dhaka a few days ago.

Seeing an empty container, Hussain climbed inside it and slept not knowing where it was headed.

The empty container, which was booked by Visakhapatnam-based Samsara Shipping Company, the local agents for Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Company.

Without noticing the man inside the container, the agents in Bangladesh had locked it and loaded onto a ship with the man sleeping inside and despatched to Visakhapatnam.

The officials at Visakhapatnam had found the man in a semi-conscious state after he sailed for over 12 days without food or water to reach the coast here on October 20.

The One Town police said that Hussain’s health is still critical and undergoing treatment at the King George Hospital.

The police informed that they are going to send him back to his country after his health condition stabilises and becomes fit to travel.
