3 ATM security staff booked for pocketing G50 L

The three accused, reportedly juveniles, commit fraud during cash-filling process

VISAKHAPATNAM: Yet another bank fraud case came to light when  Chodavaram police on Friday registered a case against three employees of a private security firm for alleged involvement in an ATM fraud and misappropriating `50 lakh. The three accused are reportedly juveniles.

According to Chodavaram police inspector Murali, the State Bank of India has outsourced the works of filling cash in the ATMs to Writers Safeguard Company, a security firm. The firm had employed the three accused persons, two to fill cash in the ATMs, and one to supervise and manage accounts daily.
Explaining the modus operandi, the inspector said that the accused manually fed `10 lakh as deposit in the ATM machine, but only deposited cash of `7 lakh or `8 lakh, several times during the cash filling procedure.

“They manipulated the software of the ATM and the ATM would show the amount per the manual feed, but not the money actually deposited. The third employee managed during the audit report,” said Murali.
Police said that the trio had been committing such crimes since March this year and a couple of days back, due to surprise auditing the fraud came to light. The authorities of Writers Safeguard, after the inquiry, came to know of the fraud committed by the three accused.

On Friday, the management of Writers Safeguard Company lodged a complaint with the Chodavaram police. “We have registered a case and would also investigate how the software could be tampered. The accused are all reportedly juveniles, but we would verify it through Aadhaar cards,” said the Inspector.
