Bomb threat at Sampath Vinayagar temple proves hoax

The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad confirmed that there was no explosive material in the temple or on its premises.

VISAKHAPATNAM: A phone call from an anonymous person to the priest of Sampath Vinayagar Temple in Asilmetta saying that a bomb was planted in the temple sent the police into tizzy here on Friday afternoon. However, the police and the temple authorities released a huge sigh of relief when the bomb squad confirmed that it was a hoax call.

According to sources, the temple priest has received a phone call from an unknown number at around 2 pm on October 21 threatening that a bomb was planted on the temple premises. The priest immediately called and alerted the Three Town police when a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad along with police dogs rushed to the spot.

After thorough inspection of the temple premises, the Squad confirmed that there was no explosive material in the temple or on its premises.

Sampath Vinayagar Temple, though being one of the crowded temples in the city didn’t have any devotees it being afternoon when the incident occurred.

The Three Town police said that they have formed a special team to identify the hoax caller and nab him for creating panic among the priest and the police.
