JAYASHANKAR: Upset over constant harassment by a stalker, a 19-year-old girl student set herself afire in Mulugu of Prof Jayashankar district. She later succumbed to her burns.
According to local police, K Ramya, doused herself with kerosene on Friday morning and set herself ablaze when she was alone in her house. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed and put out the fire and shifted her to MGM hospital in Warangal. She died while undergoing treatment.
“Amar, a married man and father of a kid, has been harassing Ramya in the name of love,” family alleged. Women’s organisations staged a protest near Amar’s residence, seeking justice to her family. Police pacified the protesters by promising stringent action against Amar, who is at large.
