MLA opposes Filmnagar Cultural Centre in Andhra Pradesh after Buddhist monks protest

VISAKHAPATNAM: A day after Buddhist monks staged a protest opposing the Filmnagar Cultural Centre proposed atop Thotalkonda, Visakhapatnam North MLA P Vishnukumar Raju on Thursday raised an objection to the allotment of 15 acre to the project.

The MLA, who met chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada, alleged that the authorities had taken the decision of land allotment without consulting the MLAs. The MLAs were not even invited to the foundation stone laying ceremony, he said. “Thotlakonda is a Buddhist monument and setting up the Filmnagar Cultural Centre near the heritage site would defile its sanctity,” he said. He also made it clear that the BJP was strongly opposing the allotment of land to the centre and urged the CM to cancel the project.
