Kanuru, Poranki locals concerned over metro project

VIJAYAWADA: The residents of Kanuru and Poranki in the city appealed to the district administration to construct the metro rail project within the land to be acquired for the expansion of four-laning of the national highway between Vijayawada and Machilipatnam.

During the public hearing held here on Wednesday, by the district officials to assess the social impact in Kanuru and Poranki, the residents pointed out that huge chunks of land for metro stations was not taken even for Hyderabad and Delhi metro projects. They also made it clear that they were ready to lose their lands only if the officials required it for the construction of metro stations.

Penamaluru legislator Bode Prasad stated that the metro project should be constructed only after addressing the concerns raised by the locals. “The officials should take into account the issues raised. As some of the residents will lose their plots, the officials should ensure minimal damage to their properties. The construction should be launched only after addressing the concerns,” he added. Vijayawada sub-collector G Srijana, Penamaluru MRO Murali Krishna and 100 residents from Kanuru and Poranki also participated.
