APEPDCL digitises all 2,800 feeders in its limits

It becomes the first power distribution company to achieve the feat

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) has crossed another milestone by digitising all its 2,800 electrical feeders under its jurisdiction in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari districts. APEPDCL has made the record of becoming the first Discom among all the power distribution companies in the country to achieve this feat. With this, officials of energy ministry, officials of APEPDCL from the top managerial levels and to the ground-level linemen could have information about the power interruptions under the feeders.

The Information Technology wing of the APEPDCL has prepared technology tool by using advanced software which records any power interruption, automatically, within seconds, including the time when the power is restored. Once the power interrupted under a particular feeder, an automatic SMS alert will be sent to the concerned assistant engineer (AE) with information of the power failure under the feeder and affected areas.

Incase theAE could not attended to the issue and restore power supply within 30 minutes, an automatic SMS will be send to his immediate head, the divisional engineer (DE) of the area. If, the DE also fails to solve the problem in 45 minutes, his higher up, superintending engineer (SE) of the operation circle will get SMS alert about the power failure.

“The three stage category of uninterrupted power supply check will ensure quality power supply in the Discoms jurisdiction. Once the issue is brought to the notice of SE, information will  automatically be sent to the director (operations) of APEPDCL. The issue will be reviewed at the top management level,” said principal secretary, Energy, Andhra Pradesh Ajay Jain. The digitised power feeders and IT based power supply system will be launched by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on September 28.

The APEPDCL, which has been registering lowest transmission and distribution (T&D) losses among all the Discoms in the country. It is the first power distribution company registering internationally allowed T&D losses of 3.8 % and recording metered sales of 87 per cent and standing above all the other power distribution companies. According to sources, the Discom is also in the first place in collecting power supply bills in time also in collecting dues and registering as one of the most profitable Discoms in the country.
