Three tribals drown while crossing stream

VISAKHAPATNAM: Three tribals including two women were feared to have drowned in a water stream near Jarakonda village of Hukumpeta mandal in Visakhapatnam Agency on Friday. The Visakhapatnam Rural Police received information about the three people missing on Friday morning and started the search operations.

The victims have been identified as K Lachanna (45), his wife K Chandu (42) and another Pangri Dumbri (50), all residents of Jarakonda village. According to Anantagiri sub-inspector Damodar Naidu, the tribals came to Ananthagiri for some work and were heading back to their village, 8 km far, by walk due to lack of roadways.

“Tribals have to trek mountains, a few valleys and water streams to reach Jarakonda as there is no road. Due to rain in the last couple of days, the stream was flowing with high force and the three missing tribals are feared to have washed away while trying to cross it,” said Damodar Naidu. The police also said that they are yet to ascertain the time of death and suspect that the incident could have happened on Thursday.

Police sources said that the bodies of the couple K Lachanna and K Chandu have been found and search operations are on to trace Dumbri’s body.
