Five drown in sea in Kakinada, special search teams formed

The eight went into the sea to bathe and play, but five of them were sucked into the sea by waves while the other three looked on helplessly.

KAKINADA: Five youths drowned in the Bay of Bengal at NTR Beach in Kakinada on Thursday evening. The bodies of three people have been recovered and search is on for the other two.

The identity of the three has been established as Anita, Devi and Srinu. A group of eight people had come from Kapulapalem village in Yanam to Kakinada on an excursion when tragedy struck.

The eight went into the sea to bathe and play, but five of them were sucked into the sea by waves while the other three looked on helplessly.

The locals rushed to rescue those drowned and recovered three bodies. Meanwhile, on learning about the incident, Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa called East Godavari district SP to enquire about the incident.

He directed the police department to form special teams to search and rescue those drowned.
