VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu assured an in-depth probe into the murder of Ayesha Meera, the pharmacy student who was killed in her hostel room at Ibrahimpatnam in 2007. He also promised to extend all help and justice to the girl's family members who called on him at Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Friday.

Ayesha Meera's mother Shamshad Begum, father Syed Iqbal Basha and other family members have met the chief minister and requested him to reopen the case for an in-depth investigation to nab the culprits. "After meeting the chief minister, we are confident that the real culprits will be punished and justice will be done to my daughter," Shamshad Begum told mediapersons.

Meanwhile, AP Women Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari who took the family members to the Chief Minister, stated that the commission would pursue the case and ensure justice to Ayesha Meera. She said that the culprits cannot escape from the law for long.

Ayesha Meera was brutally murdered in her hostel room at Ibrahimpatnam in December 2007. After a nine-month long investigation, the Vijayawada police arrested one Satyam Babu accusing him for committing the rape and murder of Ayesha Meera.

Though the Mahila Sessions Court sentenced him for life imprisonment, the AP High Court declared him not guilty and released him last week, after eight years of legal battle. The court also held the investigation officers responsible for the wrongful arrest of Satyam Babu and ordered the State government to initiate action against the erring officers.
