VIJAYAWADA: Divisional Railway Manager of Vijayawada R Dhanunjayulu on Saturday conducted a safety inspection to enquire about the facilities being offered to the passengers at ticket booking counters in the station.

During the inspection, the DRM directed the civil engineering officials to come up with innovative ideas for building special path for the differently abled passengers on the station premises.

Considering the plight of senior citizens, differently abled persons and patients, Dhanunjayulu advised the officials to keep the gates open for easy access to vehicles at the east entrance-I, however, he said that it should be unidirectional and also advised security officials to facilitate free flow of vehicles and to avoid traffic jam.

He also inspected reservation office, stores, charting room, Unified Ticketing Network Centre (CMS office), booking counters and automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs) at east entrance. He interacted with the passengers and booking clerks.

He enquired about the progress of Digi-Pay transactions. The DRM interacted with porters and assured them of providing shelter in the railway station.

He said that the Vijayawada division has been receiving many complaints over heavy rates being demanded by the porters and advised them not to extract excess charges from the passengers.
