VIJAYAWADA: The 7th State convention of Progressive Organisation for Women (POW) will be held in Vijayawada from June 10 to 12, said POW State secretary B Padma.
In a press release issued here on Tuesday, Padma said that the three-day meeting would discuss the course of action to be taken for ending gender discrimination in the society. Majority of the women in the country are still facing discrimination in education and employment, she said.
The POW leader also underlined the need for enactment of a stringent law to protect women from atrocities. She appealed to women to become active partners in the fight against gender discrimination, indecent portrayal of women in films and TV serials, dowry harassment and other social evils prevailing in the society.
