Three held in Yerpedu accident

TIRUPATI: Clearing the air that Yerpedu accident which claimed 15 lives was not engineered by sand mafia, Tirupati police registered a case of accident and arrested two drivers and owner of the lorry.

The drivers — Guravaiah and B Subrahmanyam — and lorry owner T Ramesh have been detained under Preventive Detention Act. Subrahmanyam was driving when the accident took place, police said. “Both drivers do not possess heavy vehicle licence. They were held on Tuesday,” Tirupati Urban SP R Jayalakshmi said.

Guravaiah was caught by people on the day of the accident and was handed over to police. He was drunk and was injured. After undergoing treatment, he was produced before the court on Monday.
