Andhra Pradesh: Medical student ends life in Anantapur

ANANTAPUR: A 19-year-old student pursuing MBBS at Anantapur Medical College took his own life by jumping before a train in the wee hours of Thursday.

G Yeshwant Mahendra Kumar, in the suicide note left behind, stated that no one was responsible for his death. He wrote his parents were very supportive of him, but since he was unable to face the world, he was signing off.

College principal KSS Venkateswara Rao said Yeshwant, a native of Hindupur was preparing for his first-year exams that were underway. On Thursday, he was supposed to write his physiology second paper and has been preparing for the exam till 2 am.

Reportedly, after 2 am, the boy walked out of the college hostel and went to railway track at Ramnagar, about half a kilometre from the college and jumped before a train.  Later around 5 am, residents of slums nearby found the body of the youngster in a pool of blood and alerted the railway police.

Based on the identity card found on the victim, the college management was contacted and subsequently, parents of Yeshwant were informed of the incident. The boy’s parents — G Chandrasekhar, a teacher in Lepakshi mandal and Sumathi, lecturer in women’s polytechnic Hindupur — rushed to Anantapur.

Sources said Chandrasekhar and Sumathi had visited their only son two days because he was stressed about performing well in the exams. They urged him not to worry about the results.

After receiving news of they rushed to Anantapur and broke down on seeing the body of their son. Meanwhile, police have registered a case and are investigating.
