KADAPA: A woman on Saturday allegedly killed her five-month-old daughter by drowning her in a water container at Amrithanagar Colony in Proddatur here on Saturday. Police said Gaibu Saheb and Fathima were depressed as they could not afford treatment for their daughter Rokia who was suffering from cerebral edema.
As she continued to suffer, Fathima, who had made up her mind to kill her, drowned the baby in a water container. Afraid that the police would arrest her, Fathima lodged a complaint that two unidentified women had kidnapped Rokia. The police during interrogation realised that she was trying to cover up her crime.
The mother finally broke down and confessed to having killed the child. Fathima said she took her daughter to a few local doctors but they said she could not be treated. As the parents could not cough up the money required to get her examined by experts, Fathima decided that she would kill the child to end her suffering.
