3 Maoists surrender before police in Kakinda

Militia members decided to return to the mainstream as rebel leaders did not keep their promises, says SP Vishal Gunni

KAKINADA : Tough life in the forests and growing disillusionment with the Maoist ideology are driving more and more rebels in AP to give up arms and return to the mainstream. Three members of the banned CPI Maoist, including a couple, have surrendered before SP Vishal Gunni. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the SP said that Maoists Madivi Jogaiah alias Roshan and his wife Kaluma Pojji alias Radha had surrendered before the police.

“The couple was involved in Vimpa camp attack in 2012. They were stationed at Sukma district, Chhattisgarh and Yetapaka village in East Godavari district respectively. They were active members of the party, gathering people for meetings and propagating the Maoists ideology in the villages,” Vishal Gunni said.

They had joined the naxal movement in 2011. “While another Maoist member Sunnam Nagesh of Gangileru village, worked as a courier for Maoist Prakash and provided logistics to the Maoists since 2014,” Gunni said. Gunni appreciated the efforts of Chinturu OSD Anbu Rajan, Chinturu SDPO Dilip Kumar, Yetapaka CI Ravi Kumar, SI Nagaraju, 39th Battalion CRPF Assistant Commandant Chaitanya and SI Srinivas Goud for convincing the Maoists to join the mainstream. The SP said the militia members decided to return to the mainstream as the rebel leaders did not keep their promises.
