HYDERABAD: A day after MSc first-year student E Murali committed suicide at his hostel washroom at Osmania University,  tension prevailed on the varsity campus on Monday after students staged protests. The police took several students and student organisation leaders into custody when they tried to take out a condolence rally.TDP leader Vanteru Pratap Reddy and Congress leader Addanki Dayakar along with 20 students were taken into custody.

Scores of students gathered at the Osmania University Arts College on Monday morning and shouted slogans against the Telangana government over the death. Demanding compensation for the bereaved family, the students squatted on road and opposed the heavy deployment of police forces inside the campus.

With the students asked the police to leave the campus, the police took some students into custody. Minutes after the incident, the students staged another protest near the Krishnaveni Hostel, seeking the government’s explanation over death. The irate students burnt the Telangana government in effigy.

Kodandaram flays KCR
Holding the Telangana government responsible for the ongoing suicides of unemployed youth in the State, TJAC chairman M Kodandaram launched a full-scale attack on the TRS regime, saying that the Telangana government had focused its attention on getting commissions from contractors and making land deals, instead of taking steps to provide jobs to the youth, “who were at the forefront during the statehood agitation.” The TJAC chairman gave a clarion call to the youngsters to get ready for another “movement”.
