GUNTUR: The 55th Home Guards Raising Day was celebrated at the Police Parade Grounds here on Wednesday. Participating as chief guest, Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao said home guards are serving the society on par with police. Guntur Rural SP Ch Venkata Appala Naidu said the home guard system was established in 1963. 

Thousands of home guards are helping police in discharging their duties across the State. Besides, several home guards are serving in other departments on deputation. He gave a cheque of `3.02 lakh to the family of home guard S Subba Reddy, who died in a road accident while on duty at Bapatla rural police station limits on October 30, 2017.
