The State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu action on reports that a Sub-Inspector of Dhone abetted the suicide of a 43-year-old man.

KURNOOL: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken suo motu action on reports that a Sub-Inspector of Dhone abetted the suicide of a 43-year-old man on Sunday.A case under IPC 306 has been registered in Dhone police station where SI V Srinivasulu allegedly thrashed G Varadarajulu, a roadside vendor, and his wife Sujatha. Varadarajulu committed suicide by consuming acid on Sunday after the incident.

The SHRC has issued orders to Kurnool SP Gopinath Jatti to investigate the matter by December 21. The SP has also been asked to produce the SI before the SHRC at Amaravati on December 21 with the full inquiry report. Following the SHRC directive, the SP has ordered a thorough inquiry into the incident. A DSP has been asked to probe the matter. The news of SI beating up the vendor and his wife went viral on media and the higher officials of Police Department took the matter seriously.

The Dhone police were booked under five different sections in connection with the case, including Section 306 on SI Srinivasulu, Kurnool women’s police station DSP M Venkatadri, who took charge as investigation officer, told mediapersons at Dhone police station on Monday evening. He said they would collect the CCTV camera footage and other evidence in the case. They also sought statements from witnesses on the station premises at that time.

Dhone MLA and Public Accounts Committee Chairman Buggana Rajendranath Reddy condemned the ‘police atrocity’. He demanded a thorough inquiry into the suicide incident. He alleged that some policemen were just acting as per the instructions of Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy and  targeting YSR Congress supporters in the  district. “If the incident is proved, the SI may get punished with imprisonment of 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine,” Supreme Court lawyer D Sivaram Reddy said.
Apart from this, SI Srinivasulu has been in the eye of storm as he was said to have fired at the accused in `5.5-crore Dhone heist in Rajasthan earlier.
