VIJAYAWADA: Government schools across Krishna district who are accessing fibernet services for virtual classes and digital classrooms are facing hurdles due to fluctuating internet speed. Most of the times, due to interruptions in internet connectivity, the virtual classes are not being conducted.Virtual classrooms in Krishna district are mostly remaining shut these days. Though students are enthusiastic to take these classes, teachers find difficulty in conducting virtual classes. As the schools were given Fibernet connection, the services are constantly being interrupted. In Krishna district, a total of 47 schools are equipped with digital classrooms and 28 schools with virtual classrooms.

In a majority of the schools, the digital classrooms have been replaced with virtual classroom units during July last week. As per schedule, students must take part in interactive session through virtual classes twice every week. Apart from this, students should also take digital classes every day. However, in a majority of schools, the internet is not working properly forcing the school managements to opt for offline teaching. Due to lack of proper Internet connectivity or technical glitches, the school management is skipping both digital and virtual classes and teaching  students through textbooks.

“The school education department provided virtual units to all the municipal schools in Krishna district so far. But problems like assigning a class and teaching through virtual mode are acting as deterrents. The schools have been provided Fibernet connections but they are not functioning properly. Despite contacting the service person, leave aside visiting the school, they are not even responding to our calls. All these problems are rendering us helpless in providing virtual classes to the students,” said M Nancharaiah, headmaster of a municipal high school, Vijayawada.

Deputy DEO K Ravi Kumar said, “Firstly the teachers and staff should be enthusiastic about virtual classes and secondly there should be coordination among them. The students are very much interested in both digital and virtual classes. We will certainly take note of the troubles and ensure that internet connectivity is uninterrupted.”
