HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday directed the Andhra Pradesh government to inform by December 20 with regard to the steps taken to appoint special public prosecutor and assistant public prosecutor to conduct prosecution in Vakapalli incident wherein nine tribal women were reportedly gangraped by the Greyhounds personnel in 2007.

“In view of the Supreme Court direction to complete the trial in six months, each day is crucial,” the court observed.Justice M Seetharama Murti was passing this order in a petition filed by the nine victims belonging to tribal community seeking directions to the state government to appoint special PP and assistant PP to conduct the trial pending before the 11th Additional district sessions judge-cum-special court under the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Visakhapatnam against 13 personnel of the elite anti-naxal force of AP.

Petitioners’ counsel Vasudha Nagaraj submitted told the court that  on August 20, 2007, 11 tribal women of Vakapalli village in Nurmati panchayat of G Madugula mandal in the agency area of Visakhapatnam district were allegedly gangraped by 21 Greyhounds personnel on Aug 20, 2007.
