WARANGAL: Civil societies are gearing up to exert pressure on the state government to release the seven-member fact finding team of Telangana Democratic Forum, who were arrested when they were on their way to Chhattisgarh to collect information about an encounter in which a top Maoist leader Sayanna alias Jagat was killed.

As part of the strategy, the civil societies with the help of other human right organisations would be staging a protest in front of collectorate across the state on Thursday. The fact finding team members were arrested on December 25 by Telangana police at Dummugudem in Khammam district and handed over to Konta police of Chhattisgarh.

The members of the fact finding team Chikkudu Prabhakar (Advocate), Bhalla Ravindranath (Advocate, High Court), Durga Prasad (Journalist), Duddu Prabhakar (President, KNPS, AP), Rajendra Prasad (student leader, Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika), Nazeer ( Student leader, Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika) and Ramananda Laskhme ( Students’ organisation leader) were sent to jail in Chhattisgarh.

According to Civil Liberties
Organisation member D Ranjith, the civil societies would continue their agitation till the Chhattisgarh government release them.
“We would not keep quiet till the members were released. They were just going to enquire about the fake encounter that took place in Chhattisgarh. Why the Telangana police handed over them to Chhattisgarh police when there is no pending case against them in that state? ” he alleged.
