VIJAYAWADA: A Class X student of  Nellore's Ravindra Bharati Public School reportedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room around 5.30 am at  Madhu Gardens of Vijayawada on Wednesday.

The deceased is identified as K Sai Charan, 17,  a native of A T Agraharam in Guntur.

Sai Kumar was studying in the school for last two years.

Machavaram police registered a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the IPC after the boy's father, K Ravi, who is a purohit (priest),  lodged a complaint with the police.

Sai Kumar did not leave any suicide note, police said.

According to the police, the boy spoke to his parents on Tuesday night and asked them to come to the school on Wednesday as it is his mother's birthday. However, the parents told him that they could come to the school to see him only on Sunday.

Sai Kumar was living with another 11 students in his hostel room. Early in the morning, all of them went to the study room as their study time starts at 4 AM. But Sai Kumar stayed back in the room and hanged himself to a fan, police said.

Though the school management rushed Sai Kumar to a hospital, the doctors declared him brought dead.

The body was sent to the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada for postmortem.

Police said that they did not find any injury marks on the body. Exam pressure might be a reason for the boy taking the extreme step, police said.

The police questioned Sai Kumar's roommates and school management.

Further investigation is on.
