VIJAYAWADA: The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has proposed to construct houses for 9,061 government employees in Amaravati.
At a review meeting held by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence near here on Wednesday, the CRDA officials submitted the proposal of employees housing project to him.
After going through the proposal for construction of housing complexes, the Chief Minister directed the CRDA officials to select an ideal location for the project, which will be more convenient to the employees in the capital city.
The land to be allotted for construction of houses to employees should not only cater to the needs of those who already arrived at Amaravati, but also to those expected to come in near future, the Chief Minister said.
The CRDA proposes to construct five categories of houses. Judges, MLAs, MLCs and all India service officers will be allotted houses under the first category, gazetted officers under the second and third categories, non-gazetted officers under the fourth category and Class IV employees, police staff and drivers under the fifth category.
Disclosing the details of the housing project to newsmen at the Interim Government Complex at Velagapudi, Municipal Administration Minister and CRDA Vice-Chairman P Narayana said: “As it requires more land for construction of individual houses for all the employees, the CRDA has proposed to construct G+8 apartments in five categories.”
The minister further said: “The officials and other employees who want to get houses should form themselves into societies. The government will allot land to them in five to six locations of the capital city at nominal prices for construction of apartments. We will earmark 150 to 200 acres for the employees’ housing purpose. The amount will be deducted from the salaries of employees in instalments. The flats with a plinth area of 2,900 sqft, 2,200 sqft, 1,600 sqft, 1,200 sqft and 900 sqft will be constructed.”
