Call to release seven Maoist sympathisers in Vijayawada

The Democratic Front has called for the immediate release of the members of a fact-finding committee, who were arrested by the Telangana police.

VIJAYAWADA: The Democratic Front has called for the immediate release of the members of a fact-finding committee, who were arrested by the Telangana police on December 24 last year at Dummugudem in Khammam district while they were on their way to Chhattisgarh.

The seven arrested persons are now in Sukuma jail.

G Kalyanarao, a member of the Revolutionary Writers Association, urged the Central and State government to release the seven fact-finding committee members whose mission was to bring out the facts about the alleged attacks on military, CRPF and police forces in the tribal areas of Chhattisgarh after the recent Malkangiri encounter.

Kalyanrao alleged that corporate companies, with the support of feudal forces in Chsattisgarh and Odisha, are attacking the tribals to exploit resources in their area, especially Bauxite and Coal.

In meeting a held on Thursday in Vijayawada, members of various organisations alleged that the armed forces personnel are committing rapes of tribal women,  including minor girls.

Members of the Praja Natya Mandali have performed several cultural activities on the occasion.
