VIJAYAWADA: Union Health Minister JP Nadda responded positively to reduce qualification marks in the NEET-2017 Post Graduation examination. He also promised to enhance the number of NEET-2017 exam centres in the State.

Following the allocation of only two examination centres - one each at Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam - the State government sought the Centre to allot more test centres for the convenience of medical course aspirants from Rayalaseema region.

Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, who called on the Union Health Minister at New Delhi on Monday, got an assurance from the latter.

Later, Srinivas told newsmen that Nadda assured to slash the qualification marks for the NEET PG exam and endorsed the matter to the officials of the Medical Council of India (MCI). Though Andhra Pradesh first raised the issue of reducing the NEET-PG qualification marks, the Centre’s decision will be beneficial to the students of all 29 states. A clarity regarding the reduced marks will come up before the commencement of the first phase of counselling. The Union Minister also promised to set up another test centre for NEET in Tirupati, he informed.

Responding to the construction of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) near Mangalagiri in Guntur district, the Union Minister said that they already invited world-famous architectures and will take up further steps after consulting the State government.
