VIJAYAWADA:The police Rakshak vehicles will be turned into e-Rakshaks, in a week, by installing Global Positioning System (GPS).

Even as the city police failed to track the movements of Rakshak vehicles, the department got feedback that the Rakshak vehicles are not working effectively. Similarly, oral complaints have been received from the public that the Rakshak vehicles are not arriving on time during the occurrence of street fights, especially at night food courts.

There are 20 Rakshak vehicles in Vijayawada, which are supposed to be on night patrolling. According to senior police officers from the City Police Commissionerate, they are unable to track the movements of Rakshak vehicles and are doubtful if or not the Rakshak staff are properly delivering their duties.
“We have feedback from random public that Rakshak vehicles are not performing effective patrolling, especially at food courts. To set right this issue, we are installing GPS for the Rakshak vehicles to track their movement round-the-clock,” a senior police officer told ‘Express’, requesting anonymity.
There were instances wherein the Rakshak vehicles failed to reach the spot when street fights occurred near food courts at Benz Circle and Food Junction. “But soon, no Rakshak vehicle can cross their respective station limits or no police personnel assigned on Rakshak duty will sleep in the night, for they will be monitored through the GPS and questioned in case of dereliction of duty,” the police officer added.
According to a Deputy Commissioner of Police, real-time monitoring over patrolling by Rakshak vehicles will be done from Operational Command Control Centre.
