Ruling TDP benefiting private players, allege YSRC councillors

YSRC councillors said they will raise the issue at the next council meeting to be held on Tuesday.

VIJAYAWADA: As the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is contemplating the idea of entrusting the maintenance works of Tummalapalli Kalakshetram to private companies and agencies to garner more revenue from it, the Opposition YSRC is all set to oppose the move tooth and nail.

The YSRC councillors said they will raise the issue at the next council meeting to be held on Tuesday. Interestingly, the VMC had renovated the auditorium at an estimated cost of `7 crore during ‘Krishna Pushkaralu.

Since then, many government and other private programmes were held at the auditorium.

Few days ago, the Naval Band troupe performed  at the auditorium. The third edition of StartAP fest was conducted on a grand scale at the auditorium.

“The ruling TDP councillors have drafted a maintenance plan and kept it in the agenda. How could they do so? Is the corporation that inefficient to look after the maintenance of the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram,” asked YSRC floor leader B Punyaseela.

Moreover, the corporation has reportedly drafted a proposal to reduce the annual rental hike from 33 per cent to 15 per cent.

The decision, taken soon after ruckus in the last council  meet over the property tax arrears of Vastralatha (shopping complex), may attract more criticism.
