VISAKHAPATNAM: After the incident of students consuming ganja in the hostel of Andhra University, the varsity officials have come up with a few decisions to make sure that such issues do not recur. As per the instructions given by Vice chancellor G Nageswara Rao, the security staff in the AU will keep an eye on any individual who enters the campus after 11 pm.

New rules came into force on Monday. Students have to enter the campus only through the AU main gate, showing their ID proof, while the motorists or outsiders who pass through the campus will be checked with their ID proof and the security will note down the purpose of their visit to the university.

With a total security staff of 120 in the AU, there will be 35-40 security staffers during the night shift manning the campus.

“We have been receiving many complaints that many outsiders, especially youngsters, enter the campus during night for consuming alcohol and spending time with friends in groups. We would keep a check on them,” said AU registrar V Uma Maheswara Rao.
