VISAKHAPATNAM: The ‘Digital India’ is contributing significantly to the knowledgeable economy, digitally empowered society and good governance in the country, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) chairman-cum-managing director P Madhusudan said here on Friday.
Inaugurating a two-day international conference on ‘Digital India in Global IT Spectrum (DIGITS)’ organised by the Computer Society of India, in association with Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, here, he said that India was on the verge of digital revolution with its IT sector contributing to 20 per cent of the merchandise exports.
Discussing the scope of digital revolution in the country, Madhusudan said that India had the second largest online population in the world after China with an estimated 462 million users. Technological services such as mobile payments could bring greater efficiencies in financial services and by 2025 as many as 300 million Indians could gain access to banking services.
The performances of the schools could be improved through e-administration, digital attendance systems and online teacher certification and training by digital technologies. In India, logistics sector represent 14 per cent of the cost of goods, when compared with the 6 to 8 per cent globally.
Speaking on the occasion, special chief secretary and advisor to the IT sector, Andhra Pradesh, JA Chowdary said that information and digital technology was playing a major role in transforming the business and industry and enhancing the transparency to a great extent.
He exhorted the youth to develop technologies and focus on start-ups. “There is no future lest we adopt digital technology,” Chowdhary said.
Chairman of Visakhapatnam Chapter of CSI and Director (Operations), RINL DN Rao said India has witnessed a phenomenal growth in information technology and contributing largely in enhancing transparency and good governance.
Former scientific secretary to Government of India SV Raghavan also spoke on digital infrastructure. On the occasion, the RINL CMD released a souvenir brought out by the CSI, Vizag Chapter.
