ACB sleuths raid integrated checkposts on Andhra border

Besides seizing Rs 2.55 lakh unaccounted cash from these seven locations, the ACB officials have also initiated action against the erring staff at the border checkposts.

VIJAYAWADA: The sleuths of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) carried out surprise raids at seven border checkposts of Andhra Pradesh simultaneously during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Besides seizing Rs 2.55 lakh unaccounted cash from these seven locations, the ACB officials have also initiated action against the erring staff at the border checkposts. In all, 11 unauthorised persons were taken into custody.

The ACB officials raided the integrated checkpost at Purshottapuram near Ichchapuram mandal of Srikakulam district at 4.30 AM on Monday. The raids continued till 8 AM where they seized Rs 64,000 unaccounted money. Simultaneously, the raids were conducted at Tada in Nellore,  Naraharipeta in Chittoor, and Palamaneru in Chittoor on Tamil Nadu border; Pondugula in Guntur and Zilugumalli in West Godavari on Telangana border; and Penugonda in Anantapur on Karnataka border.

Further, 11 unauthorised persons were taken into custody for questioning while they were reportedly collecting bribes from the vehicle drivers. "The unauthorised persons were acting as middlemen and were collecting the bribes from the vehicle drivers on behalf of the employees of transport and commercial taxes departments who were manning the checkposts," an ACB officer said.
