VISAKHAPATNAM: The district administration has decided to revise the MoU signed between the King George Hospital and ONGC, GAIL, BHEL, RINL, NTPC, VPT, HPCL and NMDC reducing the time frame for constructing the 10-storey super specialty surgical and cancer hospital in the KGH.

The PSUs under their Corporate Social Responsibility activities signed an MoU with the KGH authorities to provide `85 crore for the construction of the super specialty complex on the KGH premises. The managements assured the KGH authorities in the MoU that they would release the funds in five years. The MoU was signed in February 2014.

All the PSUs have released their first instalment of funds to the KGH and the construction work started. The government has given administrative sanction for six storeys and works are underway. Meanwhile, for  several reasons, including lack of sand, the construction was delayed. The PSUs, in the MoU, said after getting the utility certificate for the released funds, further instalment will be released. According to the agreement, the project has to be completed by 2019.

At a review meeting on the project held recently, the collector and chairman of KGH development committee Pravin Kumar asked the PSU officials to reduce the five-year plan to complete the project. The collector asked the PSU officials to revise the MoU towards that end.

According to sources, the PSUs informed the collector that they did not receive the utility certificates from the KGH authorities on the progress of the project. The collector directed KGH superintendent G Arjuna to complete the audit of accounts immediately. The collector also asked Arjuna to submit audit reports, utility certificates and status of the project works to the PSUs immediately. The collector informed the PSUs to release the funds soon after receiving the information from the KGH authorities.
