Class X girl hangs herself in classroom in Andhra Pradesh

The student had told her friends that she was going to toilet, but failed to return even after half an hour.

VISAKHAPATNAM: A Class X girl student, R Venkatalakshmi, studying in Kasturba Girls High School, Atchutapuram, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her hostel room on Sunday. 

As usual, the night duty teacher woke up the children at 5 am for regular study in the hostel. Venkatalakshmi, along with other students, also attended the study hours. Later, she told her friends that she was going to toilet. As Venkatalakshmi did not return even after half an hour, her friends grew suspicious and went searching for her. They found her body hanging from a ceiling fan in a classroom. 

The students shouted for help, while another girl student fell unconscious. The watchmen and others rushed to the spot and released the body from the ceiling fan. Upon information, police went to the school and searched Venkatalakshmi’s books, school bag and trunk. But, they could not find any no clue to the suicide. 

HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao also visited the school and ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident.  According to information, Venkatalakshmi, before going home for the Sankranti vacation, informed her friends several times that she did not want to continue her studies and wished to marry one of her close relatives. Sources said that after the vacation, Venkatalakshmi returned to the school disturbed over some family issues. The police registered a suspicious death case under Section 170 of the IPC and are investigating.
