Logistics facility of  India post yet to gain patronage in Vizag

Due to lack of awareness, the logistics facility of India Post is still struggling to make its presence felt in the city.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Due to lack of awareness, the logistics facility of India Post which is designed for both business and common people is still struggling to make its presence felt in the city. Though it offers services at cheaper rates, the facility has been utilised only by its regular customers and a few businessmen since 2014.

The logistics service not only offers the business class and common people to carry their products from one city to another in the state but also to other states. The India Post has designed differently its facilities within the city limits and outside.

“We have been conducting some meetings with people from various sectors to create awareness on the facilities we have in logistics with decent rates and safety arrangements, but few people come forward and hence the revenue is less than it should be compared to other places.

Most of the people who utilise it are either the regular customers or someway related to the post office officials,” said M Satyanarayana, inspector of Posts (marketing).

For the logistics facility, the India Post only accepts the goods weighing 50 kg and above, and up to 35 kg the goods are accepted as business parcel and for goods between 35 to 50 kg they will be included in the logistics, levying the minimum charges fixed for 50 kg. If the goods are being sent out of the city limits then per kg charges are one paisa for one km.

Whereas within the city limits, the charge per kg is one rupee irrespective of the distance and in addition, there will be `100 as docket charges.

The logistics facility can also be used for the purpose of house shifting. The facility can be utilised to export goods to any place in the country.  “We provide closed three-tonne vehicle which is safe for long distance and this is, even more, safer as it is government vehicle and will create no issue at check posts. We have a Business Post Centre near Dabagardens Post Office,” said Satyanarayana.
