Polavaram project oustees to be adequately rehabilitated

The collector of the West Godavari District said that rehabilitation projects will be implemented for the people displaced due to the Polavaram Project.

ELURU: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar said that the district administration would implement the rehabilitation project to those displaced by the Polavaram Project with a positive approach. 

He was addressing the Polavaram Project level Supervisory Committee meeting held here on Tuesday.

The Collector said that the Government appointed this committee to study the rehabilitation and land acquisition issues. The land acquisition would be taken up in Polavaram, Kukunujru and Velairpadu mandals under New Act of 2013. He said a final draft on the land acquisition and compensation has been submitted to the Government. After approval, the beneficiaries would get the compensation and other benefits.

Joint Collector Pulipati Koteswara Rao said that about 137 habitats would be merged in the project in three mandals and there are eight project work sites in this area. He added that 30 colonies have to be constructed for the oustees under R and R package.  The administration is sanctioning a compensation of Rs 5 lakh at a time and Rs 36,000 for over one year. He stated that the SC/ST people will get Rs 50,000 per year and to shift to new colonies, another Rs 50,000 would be sanctioned to the people as transport charges.

Polavaram MLA Modiyam Srinivasa Rao said that the road between Polavaram and Koruturu was fully damaged and the gravel was falling into the river from the bund. He requested that the road be repaired immediately.
