HC stays GO on ‘management’ medicos in private hospital norm

HYDERABAD : In a relief to post graduate medical students, the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday stayed a GO issued by the Andhra Pradesh government mandating the PG students who have completed their course in private colleges to work for a period of one year in the hospital of the same college instead of opting to work in government hospitals.

Justice MS Ramachandra Rao was admitting the petition filed by Dr Vittal Rao and other PG medical students challenging the GO 99 issued on June 23, 2017. They submitted that their classmates who have taken admission in the convenor quota are allotted one year service in government hospitals like PHC and local area hospitals.

L Ravichander, appearing for petitioners, submitted that as per earlier rules, the PG students who have completed their course have the choice to serve for one year in the primary health centres and government hospitals. Now, the government has changed the rule mandating the PG students in the management quota in private colleges to serve in the hospital attached to the same college for one year. It was nothing but infringement of the rights of the PG doctors.
