Hyderabad man nabbed with Rs 4 lakh in fake currency

VISAKHAPATNAM: The City Task Force (CTF) police nabbed a person with counterfeit currency on Friday when the the accused was leaving for Hyderabad and recovered counterfeit currency with a face value of Rs 4.08 lakh.The accused has been identified as Mohammed Syeed Ali, resident of Cyberabad in Telangana.

According to joint commissioner of police (JCP) D Nagendra Kumar, accused is an ex-offender and cases were registered against him in Medpally and Saifabad police stations in Hyderabad. 

“Apart from several chain snatching cases, Ali was a part of the four-member gang which conducted a recce to murder former extremist K Ramulu. He was jailed in several cases and released in May last yeat. While serving his terms in jail, Ali befriended one Khaimool, a native of Malda in West Bengal who was arrested in a counterfeit currency racket,” the JCP said.  Duo then decided to start circulation of counterfeit currency to spin easy money. After release from jail, Ali managed Rs 1 lakh in Hyderabad from his friend Iqbal and went to Malda to meet Khaimool. 

“Ali procured fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 4.16 lakh, all in Rs 2,000 denomination, in lieu of Rs 1 lakh original cash. The interrogation revealed that Ali has circulated some fake currency notes in Kolkata before returning Hyderabad by train. He got down in Visakhapatnam and acting on a tip-off, the CTF team nabbed him,” the JCP said.
